York College: Performing Arts Center Renovation
Bradford Construction Corporation provided complete pre-construction, construction, and post-construction management services for a two-phase renovation of the Performing Arts Center at York College, a four-year senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY). The intent of the project is to enable the college to obtain a public assembly permit for the balcony and main auditorium, and to attain ADA compliance for the facility.
Bradford rendered precise construction scheduling and control of the project, enabling uninterrupted client use and operation of the building. The scope of work included the installation of structural steel, roofing, masonry, partitions, interior carpentry, doors and hardware, plumbing, HVAC and electric systems, and interior and exterior finishing.
In phase one of this project, Bradford brought the building’s auditorium to compliance with ADA standards and made fire safety modifications to the building. The ADA work included seat rearrangement to build reinforced concrete platforms for wheelchairs. Fire protection included sprinkler installation and fire alarm devices.
In phase two of the construction an existing stairwell was extended through the roof into a new bulkhead, providing the auditorium balcony with a secondary egress. A steel-canopied platform will be built as part of the new egress. Exterior lighting and fire alarm devices were added during this phase.
